Two Biggies in the Reckoning from Gaming Legend id Software
Rage and iPhone
The head of id software and the Aristotle of gaming, John Carmack revealed two delicious details yesterday at the hugely popular Quake Con 08.
Firstly, id Software is working on two iPhone projects. He said that the first project is an extension of their mobile stuff, and the second one features some stellar graphics and is âunexpectedly exciting.â
Carmack, lamenting the fact that their company doesnât already have an iPhone product is developing âOrcs & Elvesâ for iPhone. He also added that itâs possible to make a $10 million game for the iphone, as itâs more powerful than PSP and DS combined.
The other big news? id Sofware released the trailer of their tremendously anticipated new game, Rage.
Rage is a combination first-person shooter and driving, that is made with the company's new id Tech 5 engine. As a follow up to their previous game Doom 3, id takes games to the next gen⌠Rage will be shipped with TWO DVDs. The highly detailed environments speak for themselves in the released trailer.
John Carmack also revealed that Rage will look worse on XboX 360 than the PC or PS3. Apparently, cramming the game on two DVDs will require compression that will ultimately decrease graphics quality.
Of course, a third disc was an option, but Carmack said that royalty fees would be too high. He also emphasized that this has nothing to do with XboX 360 hardware and that itâs strictly a matter of storage.
