Three New Nvidia Graphics Cards Launched Today
Old Wine in New Bottles
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX+, 9800GT and 9500GT have launched today and are available for sale.
Nvidia is getting desperate for attention after ATI’s 4870 knocked its balls out of the game.
Geforce 9800 GTX+ is a doped up old dude that was supposed to be launched two weeks ago but it got delayed. 9800 GTX + is essentially a 9800GTX with 55nm fab process. There is a slight increase in performance compared to 9800GTX but is by no means extraordinary. AMD’s Radeon 4850 performs the same and costs a good $50 less.
Geforce 9800GT is merely a re branded G92 8800GT. Aimed at desperate fanboys, its expected to sell out of consumers’ oblivion, mistakes or sheer love for Nvidia.
Geforce 9500GT is actually the only new chip out of the three. It performs on par with 9600GT or Radeon’s previous gen 3850 and targets largely the lower end rigs.
AMD has certainly won this round of GPU wars. The Radeon 4870 and 4850 have pounded the competition, forcing Nvidia to drop its prices of the Geforce GTX 280 and GTX 260. And there’s more bleak news for Nvidia… AMD’s Radeon 4870 X2 releases in mid august that threatens to completely obliterate Nvidia’s crown.
