ATI Radeon 4870 X2 Launches This week
The King Kong of Graphics Cards
The granddaddy of Graphic Cards is just a few days away from release. After the lackluster Nvida GTX 280, ATI’s Radeon 4870 X2 is bound to blow away Nvidia’s from its throne.
Radeon 4870 X2 is based on the latest R700 architecture from ATI, the graphics section of chip giant AMD. It is a dual card - TWO GPUs crammed into one monster card. The 4870 X2 boasts a stellar 2GB of the latest GDDR5 RAM.
From a marketing standpoint 2GB sounds two times better than 1GB. Practically the 2GB will be more advantageous than 1GB only at super high resolutions like 2560 and above.
4870 X2 is a combination of two Radeon 4870 cards. In case you didn’t already know, the new cards from ATI – HD 4850 and HD 4870 blew away the competition by offering cards at extremely good prices and yet performing very close to the new card from Nvidia, the Geforce GTX 280 which costs twice as much.
Radeon 4850 especially made Nvidia sweat as it performed better than the Geforce 9800GTX at a price less than the latter. The release of the new ATI cards saw Nvidia slashing prices of all their GPU’s.
Crossfire Radeon 4870 and 4850 handily beat the Nvidia Geforce GTX 280 and they cost much less than the latter. 4870 X2 is set to perform about the same as Crossfire 4870. We will have the benchmarks on the day of the release.
