Intel's New Processors Named
The New Chip on the Block
After the hugely successful Core 2 architecture, Intel leapfrogs into the next generation codenamed Nehalem. Here is the official name of Nehalem.
i7.
From August 11th onwards Intel’s Nehalem chips including Bloomfield, Lynnfield or Havendale will be officially branded "Core i7".
The name may suggest that i7 is the seventh generation of Intel chips... well it isn't because the Netbust architecture was the seventh. Intel would certainly reveal more details in the days to come.
Intel's i7 would make AMD sweat in its shoes primarily because the AMD is still a generation behind. Intel's massively popular 'Core 2' generation has already been manufactured with 45nm fab process while AMD is still stuck with 55nm. By the time AMD catches up with the 45nm marchitecture, Intel's i7 would already be mainstream... and that would mean AMD would end up TWO generations behind.
Anyhow AMD's soon to be new CEO has a few cards up his sleeve and a lot of brainwaves up his skull.
