Abhinav Bindra Strikes Gold

Abhinav Bindra is bound to be a household name in the years to come... for he has brought immortal pride and glory to India at the Olympic Games. He has become India's first individual Olympic gold medalist.

He won the gold in the 10m air rifle shooting title. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh lauded Abhinav with praises saying it was a 'golden performance'. President Pratibha Patil also has commended Abhinav's feat.

India has won eight hockey gold medals but had never won an individual Olympic title. Abhinav rewrote history.

Journalists rushed to Abinav's family home in Chandigarh as soon as news of the win came in.

"We are very proud of our son," his mother Babli Mishra said, "he has done a great thing for the country. We will be rushing to Delhi to receive him when he returns on Thursday."

"He paid a lot of attention towards physical training despite his back injury," his father A.S Bindra said, "he did tough commando training in Germany for three weeks prior to the Olympics"

Abhinav Bindra would be getting free travel passes and cash rewards as soon as he returns home.
